Even before the jet test, the German Air Ministry had anticipated problems with the BMW engines and directed the Junkers company to build a backup. Junkers then produced a "breadboard," a prototype which the designers hoped to learn from before building a production model. The Air Ministry was impatient and ordered this breadboard into production as the Junkers Jumo 004.
